The original Battlestar Galactica TV show lasted only one season, from 1978 -1979, starring Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict. After cancellation, the story was continued in 1980 as Galactica 1980, but unfortunately sucked beyond belief. In 2004, the Sci-Fi Channel produced a remake series of Battlestar Galactica, that wasn’t a continuation of the 1978 series, but a full blown retelling of the story. Due to the wide acceptance of the Sci-Fi Channel’s retelling of the story, Battlestar Galactica has evolved into a media and merchandising empire which includes the TV series, books, a movie and even some very cool Battlestar Galactica T-shirts!
