Wade Wilson was a mercenary that had contracted cancer. The Weapon X program, responsible for performing experiments on Wolverine and Sabretooth, offered Wilson a cure. This cure came in the form of recreating Wolverine’s healing factor. While the experiment worked, Wade’s new healing factor accelerated the growth of the cancer, leaving him heavily scarred. Another benefit/ curse of the Weapon X procedure enabled Wilson’s brain cells to regenerate exponentially and return to their original state. Along with his healing factor, Deadpool is a skilled martial artist with extensive combat training. Deadpool’s healing factor is also exceptionally strong. Aside from disintegration, there is little that Deadpool can’t recover from. Capable with most weapons, Deadpool also makes use of a personal teleportation device. While Deadpool’s irrational behavior could be considered a hindrance, his manic behavior serves as a method for unhinging his foes. Deadpool’s most important weapon is his mouth. The aforementioned mental instability has left Deadpool with a unique worldview and, because of this, he talks constantly about his observations. This trait has led to Deadpool being labeled as the “Merc with a Mouth.”

Deadpool has interacted with other super-types populating the Marvel Universe. His moral ambiguity has led to clashes with heroes as well as villains. From Spider-Man to Doctor Doom, Deadpool’s granted them all the courtesy of a team-up or three.

While mostly a solo player, Deadpool has joined up with teams such X-Factor and the Deadpool Corps; a team containing several alternate reality versions of the mercenary.
