The Flash spends most of his time protecting his hometown Central City. He lives with there with his wife Iris West and his nephew Wally West. Wally gained powers similar to the Flash’s when he was caught in an accident that mirrored Barry’s. Taking the name Kid Flash, Wally and Barry shared many adventures. Barry Allen’s grandson from the 30th Bart Allen also takes up residence after being sent back in time to cure his rapid aging. Bart has gone by the name Impulse and then took the Kid Flash name after Wally discarded it.

Flash didn’t limit his adventures to Central City. Thanks to his mastery over the Speed Force, the Flash could travel through time and to alternate realities with the help from external devices. The Flash also made the ultimate sacrifice and gave his life to save the multiverse by destroying the anti-matter cannon that belonged to the Anti-Monitor during the Crisis on Infinite Earths. After Barry’s apparent death Wally West took up the mantle of the Flash to honor his uncle’s sacrifice. Barry was revealed to have been inside the Speed Force instead of actually dying. He since has returned and now both Barry and Wally go by the Flash name.

Thanks to his connection to the Speed Force the Flash is able to run beyond the speed of light. The Flash’s experience with his super speed allows him total molecular control over his body. Vibrating them faster and faster, the Flash can pass through objects or travel through time and alternate realities. Being a forensic scientist, Barry Allen also is a notable detective almost on par with Batman. His knowledge of science also gives him an edge in his powers allowing him to use gravity, speed, and trajectory to simulate flight.

The Flash has an extensive rogue gallery. His main foes have grouped together and called themselves the Rogues. Captain Cold, Heatwave, the Trickster, Captain Boomering, the Weather Wizard, and Mirror Master are just some who make up this group. The Reverse Flash Professor Zoom also is a constant foe of the Flash who will go to any length to ruin the speedster’s life. The telepathic Gorilla Grodd also frequently clashes with the Flash.

The Flash has worked with many heroes over his career. His best friend is Green Lantern Hal Jordan. He also used to team up with the Elongated Man and solve mysteries. Superman and the Flash often get in races to see who is the faster out of the two. The Flash was a founding member of the Justice League of America along with the Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.
