Biography >> Green Arrow

As a child, Oliver Queen idolized Robin Hood and was told he was a natural archer. After the death of his parents, Queen inherited his family fortune and businesses in Star City, but he grew into a directionless, boozing playboy until one day he was out on his boat and fell overboard, washing ashore on Starfish Island. ...Show More

On the island, Queen was forced to hunt to survive and developed his skills as an archer. Queen soon realized that he took his life of luxury for granted and that being stranded on the island gave him time to have a catharsis. Eventually, Queen discovered that drug lords used the island as a base of operations and used his archery skills to take down the drug cartel and bring them to justice. After returning to Star City, Queen created the persona of the Green Arrow to help those less fortunate than himself.

At first, Green Arrow borrowed much of his identity from fellow hero Batman, including having an Arrow-cave and Arrow-car, and used non-lethal arrows. Soon, Green Arrow even took a sidekick with Speedy, a young, gifted archer whom Arrow eventually adopted as his ward.

However, Queen eventually lost control of his company, Queen Industries, as well as his fortune. Falling on hard times, Queen sought to forge an identity of his own and ended up becoming a left wing, socially conscious, working class hero. Unfortunately, during his quest for social justice, Queen lost control of his own sidekick Speedy, who became a drug addict. Eventually Queen regained control of Queen Industries, but continues his social crusade.

Queen engages in a torrid romance with Black Canary and eventually marries her and develops a strong friendship and partnership with Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, though both fight under very different ideals. Queen’s sidekick Speedy would overcome his heroin addiction and went to aide Green Arrow under a new name of Arsenal, a fellow archer crime fighter. Some supervillains that Green Arrow goes up against while protecting Star City, are: Deathstroke, Doctor Light, and Merlyn. Currently, Green Arrow is an active member of the Justice League and Outsiders and even his own team; Team Arrow.
