Green Lantern Merchandise

While working for Ferris Air, Hal Jordan met airplane mechanic, Tomas Kalmaku, and the two became close friends. He also had an on-again off-again romance with Ferris Aircraft owner, Carol Ferris. Hal Jordan’s world was turned upside down when the Green Lantern Abin Sur’s ship crash landed on Earth. Suffering a fatal injury, Abin Sur had his ring find him a worthy replacement. Hal Jordan’s proximity to the crash and his ability to overcome fear made him a prime candidate as Abin Sur’s replacement in the Green Lantern Corps.

Once Hal Jordan put on the ring he was transported to the planet Oa, home of the Green Lanterns. There he learned about the Guardians of the Universe who created the Green Latnern Corps to keep order in the universe. He also formed friendships with Corpsmen from other worlds such as Tomar-Re, Kilowog and the Guardian, Ganthet. Since finishing his training (most of which occurred under the obsessive tutelage of now-defamed Green Lantern, Sinestro), Hal Jordan now uses his Green Lantern ring to police his home sector of 2814. And yep, that sector includes…us!

Hal Jordan gets his powers through his Oan power ring. Fueled by its wielder’s willpower, the ring can create green, hard-light constructs of anything the user can imagine. The ring also works as a personal force shield, enables flight, creates a Green Lantern’s uniform and serves as a universal translator. In the past, the ring contained a flaw making it ineffective against yellow if the wielder succumbed to fear. Recently, the source of the flaw was discovered and, with great expense to the Hal Jordan and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps., eventually expelled.

There have also been times where Hal Jordan was not able to perform his duty as a Green Lantern. During these periods the Guardians have appointed the Earthmen John Steward, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner to take his place. While they have proven their worth, Hal Jordan has time and time again shown why he is considered the greatest of the Green Lanterns.

Hal Jordan often finds himself at odds with the renegade Green Lantern, Sinestro, now master of his very own Yellow Lantern Corps.; wielders of the coalesced, universal fear of all sentient beings. Other notable villains include Hector Hammond, Shark and Black Hand. Hal Jordan was a founding member of the JLA along with Batman, Wonder Woman and his friend, the Flash. He is also close friends with the Green Arrow. At times he has also teamed up with the Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott and his daughter Jade.
