Biography >> Marvel Heroes And Avengers

The Avengers biography: It all began as an evil plan concocted by the Asgardian god Loki who was seeking revenge on his half-brother, Thor. Loki tricked the Hulk into attacking a train and, when Rick Jones called for help, Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp came to the rescue. They soon discovered that Loki was the true threat and worked as a team to thwart his plans. They decided to keep working as a team, fighting the foes no single super hero could withstand. On that day, the Avengers were born. ...Show More

Iron Man provided a high-tech headquarters for the team in Manhattan known as the Avengers Mansion. Tony Stark's butler, Edwin Jarvis, also came with the mansion and served nearly every iteration of the Avengers. Changes came quickly for the team. The Hulk left and a newly discovered Captain America joined the ranks. The changing roster allowed heroes of every stripe to grace the halls of Avengers Mansion. New recruits included former villains Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, the android Vision, the alien Captain Marvel, another god Hercules and even mutants like the Beast. At one point, the Avengers were so numerous a west coast division was created and led by Hawkeye, featuring heroes such as War Machine and Moon Knight.

The team took their oath to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand very seriously. They faced down threats no one else could, involving them in major events such as The Kree-Skrull War and the Secret Wars. They stopped world conquering attempts by villains such as Kang the Conqueror, Doctor Doom, Ultron and Onslaught. They’ve also faced internal threats from villains posing as heroes (the Swordsman), prejudiced or corrupt government liaisons (Henry Gyrich) and the catastrophic results of trusted compatriots suffering severe, emotional trauma (Henry Pym and Scarlet Witch).

One such emotional break experienced by the Scarlet Witch led to the end of the Avengers. Tormented by the loss of her children, she lost control of her reality bending powers and, through a long series of events, caused the deaths of multiple members, the destruction of the Avenger Mansion and the disbanding of the team.

The threat of a Superhuman Registration Act formed a seemingly rogue group of New Avengers consisting of all new heroes like Luke Cage, Spider-man, and Iron Fist. Very much like the original Avengers, change came just as quickly to the New Avengers as the world witnessed more membership changes, the arrival of Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers, and then, thankfully, a return to legitimate hero status. One thing will never change. When the need is great... the Avengers will Assemble!
