Sin City is what everybody calls Basin City, and it’s an apt nickname—Basin City makes Las Vegas look as innocent as Candy Land. Under the corrupt rule of the Roark family and a police force that is always accepting bribes, anything goes in Sin City. This is especially true in Old Town, the Red Light District, where policemen aren’t even allowed to set foot unless they’ve arrived as paying customers. There are a few (relatively) good guys in Basin City though, such as Marv, a brute who takes vengeance for a murdered prostitute named Goldie, and Detective Hartigan, who defies his corrupt superiors’ and brings Senator Roark’s pedophilic son to justice. Both Frank Miller’s ongoing comic series and the movie it inspired are also known for their noirish visual style and use of color in a predominantly black and white setting.
