The Sopranos was a crime drama that centered on New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster Tony Soprano crime boss. The show aired on HBO from 1999 to 2007 for a total of 86 episodes. During the first season Tony is the capo of the DiMeo crime family and in the second season he becomes the boss of the family. Tony’s criminal activities run parallel with his chaotic family life. Tony’s family, comprised of wife Carmela, daughter Meadow and his son Anythony Jr., drives Tony to his wit’s end. Life within the DiMeo family is no walk in the park as well. The Patriarch of the family, Corrado “Uncle Junior” Soprano, is extremely jealous of Tony and continuously engages in power struggles with the younger Soprano. Other members of the DiMeo crime family are Silvio Dante, Consigliere to Tony and Peter Paul “Paulie Walnuts” Gualtieri, the underboss of the family. Other notable characters are Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, a close friend of Tony Soprano’s and Johnny Sack, longtime underboss and later boss of the Lupertazzi crime family.
Throughout the 6 seasons of the Sopranos Tony has to deal with informants, crooked cops and rival mobsters. From the first episode to the last the Sopranos was critically acclaimed and won 21 Emmy’s.
