Pops had originally created a new engine for the Mach 5 but malicious corporations and automotive factories wanted to the Mach 5 engine for themselves to be duplicated and put into their own racecars. In order to keep the engine in his own possession, Pops needed to start his own company, but unfortunately, required a large amount of capital.

Going against his father’s wishes, the need for money to finance Pop’s business, Racer Motors, prompts Speed to enter the Mach 5 into a professional race which has a cash grand prize. Unfortunately, Speed finds out that the dangerous mountain race that he entered is being sabotaged by rival corporations who wish to steal the plans for the Mach 5 engine. Speed is then forced to try to finish the race, alive while navigating through competitive racers, dangerous hit man, who are trying to kill him, who work for a rival company.

Each episode of Speed Racer is similarly plotted where Speed feels obligated to do the one thing he loves, that he’s not allowed to do, all for the sake of his family; which is to race the Mach 5. Spurred on by a love for racing and an even deeper love for his family, Speed Racer strives to be the greatest racecar driver the world has ever seen. Behind the wheel of the Mach 5, most innovative piece of technology in the automotive world, Speed is able to make use of not only his vehicle but also his racing prowess as he crosses the finish line in his many adventures.
